2014 Summer Tour is off to a HOT Start!

June 17, 2014 in News, Tour

Joss Stone surprises the audience at Eleven Madison Park when she joined The Stringdusters on stage.

Just a week into our 2014 Summer Tour and we’ve already had more fun than should be allowed.

We started in New York City on Sunday, June 8th, where we played a private party at the illustrious Eleven Madison Park for industry members and guests of the Big Apple BBQ Block Party. The audience got an extra special treat as JOSS STONE joined us on stage for a Fork in the Road encore!

Next, it was on to Loveland, CO for another private show—this time for the Grassroots Outdoor Alliance Fundraiser. The GOA is a collective of over 100 independent outdoor specialty stores focusing on sharing information, fostering communication, promoting best business practices and protecting our natural environment—locally and globally—through community, culture and sustainability. With such a high regard for community conservation, it’s no surprise that the GOA named the CAN’d Aid Foundation as the beneficiary of the fundraiser.

We raised over $25,000, which triggered a $5,000 contribution from Patagonia and a $25,000 match from Oskar Blues Brewery for a grand total of OVER $55,000 RAISED FOR POST-FLOOD REBUILDING EFFORTS!

From there, it was on to Boulder where we joined Grammy Award-winning musician Rodney Crowell as special unannounced guests for his eTown taping. (Stay tuned for details on when the concert will air.) Then, we finished out the week with a free show at FIBArk Whitewater Festival on Friday and rocked out at Palisade Bluegrass and Roots Festival on Saturday. We saw tons of new and familiar faces, and they all know how to party!

Who knows what the rest of Summer Tour holds? Come see for yourself!

2014 Ski Tour – Shredding Strings & Slopes

    February 14, 2014 in Tour

We’re a week into the 6th annual Ski Tour and already it’s poised to be the best Ski Tour yet! We kicked it off in Big Sky, MT where we got to spend 4 days skiing the beautiful Big Sky Resort and picking with bluegrass greats like Sam Bush, Tony Trischka, Ronnie McCoury, Jason Carter, and Drew Emmitt at the Big Sky Big Grass festival.

Then it was off to 2 sold-out, raging nights in Jackson Hole! We spent our time shredded strings and slopes alike with fans, friends and the Jackson Hole Ski Patrol. Our second night’s show also doubled as the annual Sweethogs and Swinehearts Ball, a benefit for the Ski Patrol. We had such a phenomenal time while in town, it was hard to leave. Definitely looking forward to going back.

Ski Tour wraps up on February 23 at the WinterWonderGrass Festival in Avon, but there’s plenty happening before then in the latter half of Ski Tour. We’re looking forward to more raging shows and a few ski meet-ups at our remaining stops in Park City, Fort Collins, Aspen, Telluride and Gunnison. Visit our Events page on Facebook to make sure you don’t miss a moment of the fun.

    The Road to Boulder Traveled

January 20, 2014 in News, Tour

In September of 2013, the Colorado Front Range was devastated by heavy rains and flooding that destroyed practically all of the towns of Lyons and Longmont. With our personal connection to Lyons in particular, and the role the area has long-played in the bluegrass community, we felt an urgent need to take action and immediately started looking for ways to help the areas recover. In December, we hit the road with others whose roots run deep through Colorado—Paper Bird, Oskar Blues Brewery, Osprey Packs, Elevation Outdoors and the reemerging Madden Equipment—to raise funds, national awareness and resources to assist in rebuilding the community through the CAN’d Aid Foundation.

Thanks to your contributions, we’ve raised nearly $5,000 already for Oskar Blues’ CAN’d Aid Foundation, and we’re not done yet! You can help us in our mission to support the rebuilding of Lyons by donating to the CAN’d Aid Foundation in the following ways:

Road to Boulder, EP feat. Bruce Hornsby, and Ski Tour to Benefit Oskar Blues Can’d Aid Foundation for Colorado Flood Relief

December 6, 2013 in Albums, News, Tour

So much excitement is going on in our world… New shows just announced, including our 2014 Ski Tour. We’ve got a new EP dropping on Tuesday, November 19th, with the never-before-released single, Road to Boulder, featuring Bruce Hornsby on accordion! But the most exciting news is our partnership with Oskar Blues! They will be presenting both our 2014 Ski Tour and our upcoming Road to Boulder Tour in December as a benefit for Oskar Blues Can’d Aid Foundation, immediately raising funds for the victims of September’s flooding in Lyons and Longmont, CO.

    2014 Ski Tour Dates

As with many bands on the bluegrass scene today, Colorado holds a very special place in our hearts. Travis Book (bass) grew up amongst the pines and mountains of Palmer Lake. Years later, the Planet Bluegrass concert grounds in Lyons, CO booked us for Rockygrass and the Rockygrass Academy. One of our first great shows was at Rogers Hall in Lyons, as part of their High Street Concert Series. Andy Hall, our dobro player, also calls the town of Lyons, CO home—a town that’s been devastated by September’s flooding. Our Colorado roots run deep, particularly through Lyons—a town that, in some parts, has been completely destroyed. We’re helping this beloved town rise from the tragedy by partnering with Oskar Blues to make our 2013 Road to Boulder Tour and 2014 Ski Tour a fund raising campaign to benefit the Oskar Blues Can’d Aid Foundation, whose immediate focus is on maximizing fundraising efforts for the communities of Lyons and Longmont, CO. $1.00 from every ticket sold along the two tour circuits will go directly to Can’d Aid Foundation. Click here for a full list of our tour dates, or you can click here to donate now.

We’ve also got a new EP that includes the track Road to Boulder feat. Bruce Hornsby! Purchase the EP through our web store and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to Oskar Blues Can’d Aid Foundation. Click here to purchase the Road to Boulder single. Click here to purchase the Road to Boulder EP. November 12, 2013 in News, Tour

As the days get shorter and colder (and if a piece of your heart is always in the High Country), you may be daydreaming of rising peaks laden with freshly-fallen snow, as glimpsed from the chair that carries you to their summit. Can you feel the blast of crisp air in your face as you rush downhill, riding the powder to the bottom? Are you ready to relax in the lodge and throw back a couple of Dale’s Pale Ales after a long day of ripping it on the slopes? Dreaming of topping it all off with a full-on dusting? Then you, my friend, are dreaming of Ski Tour! Though there’s a lot happening between now and February, we’re already daydreaming of 2014, too! As if our annual Ski Tour wasn’t exciting enough, we’re thrilled to add that we’re partnering with Oskar Blues, who will be presenting both our 2014 Ski Tour and our upcoming Road to Boulder Tour in December. Ending the American Rivers Tour

    September 24, 2013 in Tour

All Photos and Video by Harrison Buck

We’re finally reflecting on this summer’s American Rivers Tour, and we can honestly say we made some of the greatest memories in the band’s history. From the music to the fans to the wild and scenic settings we were able to explore, this was an adventure that will stay with us forever.

It started with 10 shows in some of our favorite mountain towns. We’re grateful for the support and energy that came our way, when we hit stages in Utah, Colorado, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. The run then culminated with a six-day float on the Middle Fork of Idaho’s Salmon River. After a plane dropped us in the middle of nowhere, we spent nearly a week in a pristine unspoiled wilderness area, guided by the fine folks at Idaho River Adventures. It was a time to make new friends, new music, and new connections to the natural world around us. Check out the short documentary that captures the experience.

We’d like to offer special thanks to our tour sponsors: Patagonia, Osprey, Klean Kanteen, and Moab Brewery. The combined efforts of these great companies and the tickets purchased by our loyal fans raised nearly $10,000 for American Rivers, an organization working hard to protect our nation’s river and streams. We’re planning to keep in touch with American Rivers, follow their efforts, share what we’ve learned, and anticipate future adventures together.
