Talk to me about New Years and charlottesville. Never been to either venue or town. Would like to stay in downtown, any recommendations, omni too expensive….

what about jefferson venue? vip thoughts?.

What are do not miss things while in town for few days? more of nature person than historical, but…..

I’ve only been to Cville once, so I probably wont be too helpful here. I’m also intrigued to hear other peoples tips though. The little downtown main street area is very cute. Lots of good restaurants and little stores to walk to.

The Omni is too expensive for us too. There is a Marriott that is slightly less expensive about a mile away and if you want to go even cheaper there is an Econolodge about a mile and a half away. I didn’t look into it much further than that because we wanted to keep walking home from the shows as an option. :)

Does anyone know how readily available taxi’s will be around the area on NYE? I’m from Boston, so they’re everywhere, but I don’t recall seeing very many last time I was in VA (can’t say I was really looking for them though).

I chose the VIP option because… well it’s New Years Eve and I’m already driving 600+ miles, so I might as well splurge for the champagne toast and whatnot. Most bars around me charge $50 cover without a band on NYE… it’s ridiculous! So it was an easy choice for us.

I’m so excited for this one. Not only do I get to go see the Stringduster’s two more times before the year is over, It also gives me an excuse to go visit my best friend (or seeing my best friend gives me an excuse to see the Dusters… either way you look at it, I win! :-P ).

A bunch of us are staying at the Red Roof inn 1.3 miles from the venue,89.00 per aaa rate,,Were all doing the VIP thing too ,,Why not it’s New Years with the Dusters,, I’ll be doing all 4 shows ,,,Jersey,Baltimore,C-ville 2 shows..This should be a hoot,,We have a huge crew making the trip down. I think the band will be sick of seeing me by New Years eve,,,lol

Hey all… I’m from Roanoke, just a couple hrs from C’ville, and go often for music and sports events – I’ve stayed at the RR Inn several times and never had a bad stay – parking can get a little tight there if you arrive late, although I’m sure you probably wouldn’t… staying myself this time at the Courtyard Marriott which is also super close by for the first time, looks perfectly fine… if you’ve never been to the Jefferson, it’s wonderful – saw RRE last April there. The whole area has a ton of restaurants and such (“mall area” that borders Univ of Va) all very cool… had a blast at the Festy and can’t wait for the NYE show!

Hey folks, The Jefferson set up a special rate for NYE at the local Holiday Inn a couple miles from downtown. The rate is $79.99/night and you may book from this link: http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/us/en/charlottesville/choso/hoteldetail?groupCode=NYE It includes transportation to/from the venue.

Personally I’d stay at the Hampton Inn or Marriott on West Main St. They’re about a mile walk to the downtown pedestrian mall. Holiday Inn is nice but I prefer to walk.

Cabs should be a non-issue on NYE. If the weather is decent, you can easily occupy your time by meandering around the UVA area and/or downtown. Should be a stellar weekend.

One more thing. Great shuttle service, if you don’t stay at the Holiday Inn or need a ride for the 10/30 show at The Southern, Wahooptie (http://wahooptie.com/wahooptie.html – we use these guys at The Festy too) is $3/ to/from Holiday Inn on 5th St. I’m guessing that it’s a similar rate at Red Roof/Marriott/Hampton Inn.

Awesome! Thanks for all the info.

Does anyone have any hints or guesses on who the “friends” might be for the show on the 30th? :)

…just got this email about Yonder’s NYE dates:

“Yonder Mountain String Band returns to Colorado for a five-night hometown run from December 27 – 31, 2011! Special guests will include Futureman (of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones), Darol Anger (fiddle), Andy Hall (pedal steel, The Infamous Stringdusters), and Rushad Eggleston (cello).”

Does that mean Andy H won’t be with the guys on 12/30 & 12/31? Say it ain’t so!

Hey Amanda – it ain’t so! There’s a subtlety to their post, but not all guests will be at each Yonder show on that run. See you for New Years!

Oh boy I’m in! Woot! I’m from Charlottesville and need some company (someone to drink beer with) for the show. Any volunteers?

      hey now..

      alrighty then…

so the real question is… who is not bolting out on 1/1, and staying around and driving back on 1/2.

and for those who will be around on 1/1.. is there maybe by any chance a New York Football Giants bar in and around C-Ville..

and if not, where is the best place to watch the first game of the “playoffs” :-)

      see ya freaks there..

For Sunday the 1st, I’d say your best bet is probably Boylan Heights on “The Corner”. For anyone staying at the Red Roof…this is crazy convenient. See everyone there.
